Dr Emily Igoe (DClinPsy, BSc Hons)

My name is Emily, I am a Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Therapist with over 10 years’ experience in mental health and social care. I currently work as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS as well as in private practice. My work in the NHS and charities as a psychologist has mostly involved working with individuals navigating the impact of trauma, physical health conditions, and challenging social circumstances. I am also experienced in providing supportive supervision, reflective practice and training for professionals working in mental health and social care. Trauma-informed practice is always at the heart of what I do. I provide support online and in my clinic room in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.

Being a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, I am trained to a high standard in a range of therapeutic approaches, for a range of difficulties and ages. I am always aspiring to learn more and develop my skills even further, to ensure I can help clients to the best of my ability. I use a range of therapeutic approaches, including talking therapies such as CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) and Narrative Therapy, and trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy). I use gold-standard evidence-based approaches and work to high ethical standards. One of the benefits of seeing a Clinical Psychologist is that this is a protected title, and you can be safely assured that I am registered with the HCPC, meaning my practice is regulated.

With regards to me as a person, I have a relaxed, warm and compassionate approach. I understand how daunting and anxiety-provoking seeking out therapy can be. Perhaps it is your first time trying therapy and you are not sure what to expect, or perhaps you have tried therapy in the past and not found it helpful for you at the time. Whatever the case, I will meet you where you are at, and think about how to make our sessions as accessible as possible for you. Most importantly, I know (and the research tells us) that the most important factor in making therapy helpful is the relationship between client and therapist. We can build this relationship at a pace that feels right for you, to allow the work of helping you understand yourself and your relationships, and how your past experiences have affected you, to begin.
